An Omnisend integration for Shopify membership data
Memberply updates custom properties on Omnisend contacts when a member joins, changes tier, schedules cancellation or becomes inactive. Use those properties to define audiences and personalize the campaigns or flows you build in Omnisend.
The integration provides membership context. Connecting it does not create segments, activate flows, send a reminder campaign or subscribe customers to marketing. Your existing Omnisend consent and suppression settings remain separate from membership status.
Exactly which membership properties sync?
On smaller screens, scroll to see every column.
| Property | What it represents |
|---|---|
memberply_member_status | active or inactive membership status. |
memberply_membership_tier_name | Current active tier name; cleared when inactive. |
memberply_membership_product_shopify_id | Shopify product ID of the active tier; cleared when inactive. |
memberply_last_membership_tier_id | Shopify product ID of the most recent tier, retained after cancellation. |
memberply_last_membership_tier_name | Most recent tier name, retained after cancellation. |
memberply_membership_expires_at | Effective access end date in ISO 8601 UTC format; cleared when inactive or no expiry exists. |
memberply_member_since | Date and time the member joined the selected tier. |
memberply_membership_cancellation_scheduled_at | Scheduled cancellation date while an end-of-period cancellation is pending. |
memberply_membership_cancelled_at | Timestamp marking inactive membership during the normal sync; cleared when active. |
memberply_shopify_customer_id | Shopify customer ID. |
memberply_shopify_shop_domain | Shopify shop domain. |
Memberply uses email to match the contact and sends first and last names when available. Phone numbers are not sent. The integration selects the current active membership where available, rather than using an old tier from a delayed event.
These are contact properties, not a complete membership event history. Points balances, store-credit balances, benefit redemptions and failed-payment details are not part of this documented property set. Do not build an audience around those values without a separate verified data source.
Four membership segments you can build in Omnisend
On smaller screens, scroll to see every column.
| Audience | Membership conditions | Example use |
|---|---|---|
| Active members | memberply_member_status equals active. | Explain a benefit included in current membership. |
| Active members in one tier | Status equals active AND memberply_membership_product_shopify_id equals the tier’s product ID. | Share an offer relevant to that tier. |
| Inactive members from a tier | Status equals inactive AND memberply_last_membership_tier_id equals the former tier’s product ID. | Consider a relevant return invitation after checking eligibility. |
| Members approaching access expiry | Expiry is present and upcoming, with current tier conditions when needed. | Explain how to continue access before it ends. |
These are audience examples, not automatic campaigns. Add the appropriate Omnisend marketing eligibility and suppression conditions before sending. Use the tier product ID when a segment should survive a tier rename, and copy the actual synced value from a contact.
Omnisend may not show a custom property until a contact has received it. Inspect a test member first, then follow Omnisend’s custom properties guide. For broader audience planning, see our Shopify customer segmentation examples.
Access expiry is different from the next payment date
memberply_membership_expires_at represents the effective end of membership access. It can include an imported or individually assigned expiry, an end date calculated from a free or one-time tier’s duration, or a scheduled subscription cancellation.
The next payment on an ongoing subscription is not an access expiry. Do not use this field as a general monthly billing reminder. When access is extended, the expiry changes; when membership becomes inactive or has no expiry, it clears.
For expiry reminders, first confirm that Omnisend recognizes the synced value as a date and build a segment around the actual upcoming access end date. Use that audience in a flow you configure, checking the current expiry and tier before each message. Test extensions, cleared dates and re-entry settings before activating it. Omnisend’s anniversary filters consider only month and day, so an anniversary condition alone is not a reliable check for a specific membership expiry. See Omnisend’s segment filter guide.
Choose either an external flow or Memberply’s matching native member expiry reminders for that tier to avoid duplicate messages.
How updates and the expiry background check differ
Normal membership changes update membership contact properties. A separate background check updates only the expiry field on existing Omnisend contacts. It does not refresh status and tier properties or create missing contacts.
The expiry check runs every 15 minutes, in batches of up to 500 contacts per integration. Larger stores, provider rate limits, permission problems or errors can take longer; failed updates are retried on later passes. This is not a guarantee that every contact is fully synchronized within 15 minutes.
Saving an API key marks the integration configured and starts support for subsequent membership changes. Do not treat the Integrated label as proof that every existing member has been imported or that the key’s permissions have been verified. Confirm the actual contact data you need before relying on a segment.
Connect Memberply and verify a contact
- Create an Omnisend private API key with contacts.write access.
- In Memberply, open Integrations > Omnisend, paste the private key and select Save settings.
- Use a controlled test member and a normal membership change to check that the expected properties reach the Omnisend contact.
- For expiry reminders, confirm a valid end date and test extending or removing it before activating your flow.
The integration updates contacts by their email address. Keep the key private and confirm a real contact update rather than relying only on the saved status. Follow the Memberply Omnisend setup guide for the full field list and examples.
What to check when evaluating the integration
A member can be active without being subscribed to marketing. For an existing contact, Memberply updates membership fields without sending identifiers, channel status, marketing consent or tracking consent. For a missing contact, it creates the email identifier with nonSubscribed status and disables the provider’s welcome message for that creation. It does not send phone numbers or create SMS identifiers.
Creating or updating a contact does not build a segment or activate an email flow. Check the contact’s sending eligibility separately from its membership status. This integration does not install prebuilt flows or export every loyalty balance and activity. Check your proposed campaign against the fields above before choosing the app.
Use membership tiers to define the offer and the member portal for customers to use their benefits. Omnisend provides the separate tools for messages you configure around that membership context.
Memberply and Omnisend costs are separate
Memberply Growth costs US$49/month, with unlimited members, a 14-day app trial and no Memberply transaction fee. See the Shopify App Store listing.
Your Omnisend account and any charges for its plan, contacts or messaging are separate from Memberply. Check your Omnisend account’s current plan before planning a larger audience or flow. The Memberply app trial is not an Omnisend trial or a promise of free email sending.
Use the paid membership launch guide to budget the app, member benefits and communication together.
What to verify during your app trial
On smaller screens, scroll to see every column.
| Check | Confirm before activating messages |
|---|---|
| Permissions | The private key has contacts.write access. |
| Membership changes | Joining, tier changes and cancellation produce the expected current and previous-tier fields. |
| Expiry behavior | The end date is correct, changes after an extension and clears when appropriate. |
| Existing contacts | The contacts you intend to reach exist and contain the needed fields; do not assume a full backfill. |
| Sending rules | Consent, exclusions, flow timing and duplicate native reminders have been reviewed. |
Shopify membership and Omnisend questions
Does Memberply integrate with Omnisend?
Yes. Memberply syncs membership contact properties to Omnisend, including member status, current and most recent tier, membership dates and effective access expiry.
Does connecting Omnisend create email flows automatically?
No. You build and activate segments and flows in Omnisend. Saving the integration does not create a campaign or send reminder emails.
Does Memberply change marketing consent in Omnisend?
No. Existing consent is preserved. Missing contacts are created with nonSubscribed email status. Memberply does not send phone numbers, and membership status is separate from marketing permission.
Does the integration sync points and store-credit balances?
Those balances are not included in the documented Memberply Omnisend property set. Use a separate verified data source if a campaign requires them.
Does membership expiry mean the next billing date?
No. It is the effective end of access. An ongoing subscription’s next payment date is not treated as membership expiry.
Are all membership fields refreshed every 15 minutes?
No. The background check updates only expiry on existing contacts, in batches of up to 500. Normal membership events update status and tier fields. Large stores and errors can cause delays.
What API permissions are required?
Use an Omnisend private API key with contacts.write. Verify that a controlled membership update reaches the expected contact after saving.
What happens to tier fields when membership ends?
The active tier name and product ID clear when the member becomes inactive. The most recent tier ID and name remain available for relevant historical audience conditions.
