Compare costs using one membership brief
Give each provider the same brief: your launch member count, expected growth, membership price, billing frequency and three essential benefits. Ask which plan covers the complete brief. A member allowance alone does not establish that the plan includes every required integration or portal setting.

Test the same member journey in each app
- Joining and billing. Try the first checkout, renewal, failed payment and cancellation. Check monthly, annual or one-time billing, any customer trial, and when access begins or ends.
- Benefit delivery. Specify whether credit is earned on joining, renewal, product purchases or a schedule. Test eligibility, refunds and expiry. Shared feature names do not guarantee the same rules.
- Prices and access. Check member prices on product pages and at checkout, discount combinations and exclusions. Test protected content as a signed-out visitor, active member and expired member.
- Accounts and integrations. Test Shopify new customer accounts, your theme and any required POS or email workflows. Confirm the integration works on the plan you would buy.
- Operating cost and support. Forecast your launch size and a growth scenario. Include companion apps, setup time and support requirements, then compare the total cost.

What to verify before your membership app trial ends
Use a small test group and a test plan agreed with each provider. Record the result for each requirement below. For a monthly or annual renewal beyond the trial, request a supported test or demonstration instead of assuming it works.

Use a membership app when the main promise is access to a tier and its benefits. Use a product subscription app when the main promise is repeat delivery. If you need both, test how billing, eligibility and cancellation interact across the two offers.

Check migration before changing a working program
Map existing tiers, prepaid access, renewal dates, rewards, customer tags and integrations. Ask each provider which records, payment arrangements and benefits can move, and what members must do themselves. Do not cancel existing billing until the transition is coordinated.
